Do you think that you are safe while using p2p network (using torrents)? Yeah, people think that what happens by doing this, they think that they are at the safe side. But they are ignorant, they don't know that in p2p network we connect to other computers and they may drop any type of malware or virus in our stream and it may come to our pc. Most antiviruses don't detect the viruses coming this way. Autorun.exe virus is being heavily distributed by this method. But this is one issue.
Another and much more important issue is that by using the p2p network to download movies, songs, games, softwares etc is an illegal thing to do. But people don't mind this. They think that as long as they are getting all the free stuff they should not worry but now the time has come to be worried. Nowadays MPAA, CRIA, CPCC, RIAA and some other organizations are very active and catching illegal filesharing. (These are organizations which sue you on the illegal use of p2p network filesharing and on the orders of the court they may make you pay thousands of dollars and end up several years in jail.)
Everybody knows why www.mininova.org is dead. Because of these organizations. Think, if they can bring such a big org down then can't they hunt you?
Now I think that readers are getting a bit nervous and frightened. But don't worry. As I always have, I have a solution. That also for free.
Phoenix labs has made available a free software named peerguardian which blocks these monsters and protects you against them.
What it does is block the ip addresses that are blacklisted in its database while your downloads are active so they are not able to find you. It has automatic update feature which downloads latest IP addresses to be blocked so you stay safe. This is only for windows users.
